The question isn't whether Polish engineers are good. They are. The real question is whether the premium over Romania, Bulgaria, or parts of LATAM is justified for your specific situation. Often it is. Sometimes it clearly isn't.

Due Diligence at These Price Points

A genuine senior engineer typically has six or more years of hands-on experience, two to three years acting as a key decision-maker on complex systems, and demonstrated ownership of production systems including architecture, security, performance, and incident response. Ask for anonymized CVs with clear project timelines. Ask directly: which production systems have you owned end-to-end?
Run your own system design session with proposed leads. Give them a realistic problem, a multi-region SaaS product or an event-driven data pipeline, and watch how they think through trade-offs. Cost vs. redundancy. Latency vs. consistency. Security vs. velocity. Engineers who've actually done senior work think in trade-offs.
